8 Awesome Classic Pickup Truck Model Kits


Pickup trucks have always been an important part of our lives. If you need to haul something, go off roading, help a neighbor move or just like to look cool we need our pickup trucks. They have been the go-to vehicle for all the truck lovers through the years.

What are some of the late and great classic pickup model kits?

Now that we found them, lets take a good look at them.

1- Revell Ford FD-100 Pickup

The designer truck that has spanned generations can be appreciated by generations with the addition of this 78-piece model kit to your collection.

This kit features independent front suspension and coil over rear, and dual exhaust. Also contains solid axles for stronger construction in this 1:25 scale kit that is molded in white, transparent red and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires.

This kit is recommended for ages 12 years and up as it requires painting and glueing. It is rated as a level 2 kit that is priced around $27 and includes detailed instructions.

2- Revell Jeep Honcho Ice Patrol

The Jeep pickup truck was based on the famous Jeep Wagoneer. It was initially referred to as the gladiator and was in production from 1962 to 1988.

The Honcho was a trim package offered on the base J10 model. It was part of a series of special packages offered in the 1970S and 80S. The original Gladiator truck was the basis of the first post war U.S. Army truck.

Designed to be a civilian vehicle, it was then adapted for military use. The basic engine in the Honcho was a 258 C.I. Six cylinder engine with an available option of the AMC 401 C.I. V8, rated at 225 HP. Both engines used the Quadra Trac drive system and were known to be strong and reliable.

This kit includes a multi piece snowmobile, detailed V8 engine, 4 wheel drive system, gas cans, tool box and rollover bar with lights. This kit also has extras of chrome plated parts and soft black tires.

This is rated as a skill level 4 with 80 parts but I believe anyone with model painting and gluing experience can build this truck.

3- Revell 78 GMC Big Game Country

The American pick up truck is used in many different ways and is the most popular vehicle, based on unit sales. It ranges from backwoods explorer to fashionable suburban grocery getter.

This GMC high roller represents part of the ninth generation of vehicle production. It is beefed up to deal with the most rugged terrain. Hunting has always been part of the American tradition, and the right truck is a must.

From the 4 wheel drive to the “camo” look, getting out in the backwoods is a way of life for many. This “Jimmy”, as GMC trucks are referred to, can deal with any back road conditions.

This kit comes complete with a detailed V8 engine, 4 wheel drive suspension, separate frame and fold down tailgate. Interior details include a CB radio and gun rack.

This kit is a 1/24 scale that is rated as a skill level 4 for ages 12 and older. This kit comes with 105 parts that include soft black tires for a more finished look. Completed it is 8-3/16 long, 4-5/16 wide and 5-1/2 inches tall.

4- 1970 Ford F-100 Custom Cab 4X4

This is the 1/25 Moebius Models 1970 Ford F-100 Custom Cab 4X4 Pickup Truck. This is the Ford Highboy as they became to be called.

The 1970 Ford F100 4×4 Custom Cab Pick-Up 1/25 scale plastic model kit comes with a detailed chassis, 360 CID V8 engine with plenty of chrome parts and soft PVC tire.

This is a skill level 3 kit that has very good ratings. It is molded in very detailed plastic that will require glueing and painting.

This is a great model for $32 and is a kit that an intermediate builder will enjoy making.

5- Ford 1966 F100 Flareside

The F-100 Flareside Pickup features a 115-inch wheelbase, a 6½-foot bed, classic rounded rear fenders and a flat-sided truck bed with running boards for easy loading and is very practical for hauling loads around the ranch or farmyard.

This Moebius Model is a precision-tooled styrene model kit of the 1966 F-100 flareside pickup that features a full interior, accurate 240 CID six-cylinder engine and a detailed chassis.

The completed kit measures over 7 inches long, and includes clear and chrome-plated parts, soft PVC tires, decal sheet and clear detailed instructions. This kit is a good value at $30 and will be a fun build for all skill level builders.

6- AMT1120 1:25 1934 Ford

This is a 1/25 scale, skill 2, so paint and cement is required. Moulded in white with 3 in 1 building options: stock, custom or service truck. Includes many retooled/restored original first issue parts.

This kit comes with display accessory parts including tools, blocks, jack, two complete motors with one fully in chrome, wheel and tire options and an expanded original decal sheet of artwork. This is the retro deluxe vintage AMT packaging and is the first time available in this format since 1962

This kit requires paints and glues to assemble the highly detailed parts. Included are chrome plated parts, pad-printed vinyl soft tires and metal axels.

7- Revell ’65 Chevy Stepside

The 65 Chevy Stepside Pickup by Revell Vintage pickup trucks are more popular than ever these days, as auto enthusiasts everywhere are rediscovering their appeal.

The 65 Chevy Stepside Pickup will stand out at any car show and turn heads at cruise nights but it can also still be a work horse to carry loads.

This kit features detailed 283 V-8 engine with optional engine parts and disc brakes. Chrome reversed wheels with moon hubcaps and whitewall tires or five spoke mag wheels with low profile tires.

8- AMT 1094 1955 Chevrolet Cameo

This is the latest release in AMT’s series of Coca-Cola models and is value-packed and features some special bonuses. First, and for the first time ever, additional optional custom wheels have been added to the Cameo, wrapped in wide, pre-lettered tires to create a mild, but unique, attractive custom version.

For the big bonus, the included die cast parts allow the builder to assemble a period Coca-Cola vending machine and transport dolly to display with the finished model. Beautiful illustrated packaging will be popular with Coke memorabilia collectors and modelers alike.

The AMT 1094 1955 Chevrolet Cameo Pickup Coca Cola Edition is an unassembled model truck kit that needs glue and paint to finish. It includes a die cast vending machine, two sets of tires including white walls and red walls.

You can build this kit stock or mild custom with optional mag wheels and comes with two sets of tires-stock and custom. Super detail and authenticity throughout.

This is a skill level 2 priced at $30 at most outlets. Great model for the intermediate builder or someone who just likes trucks.

Do I need to prime plastic models before painting? You should not only prime them, but you should wash the parts first. The mold release agents on the plastic will keep the primer from sticking, just as lack of primer will make the paint bond weaker.
